My Birth Announcement
My mom just showed me my birth announcement. I am SO cute... I can barely stand myself! I am super happy I let her get a good picture of me... imagine what it would have looked like if she had to use one of the pictures with my arms in the way or a with a crying face- who would have wanted to see that? Okay, that is all I am going to say... I don't want to ruin the surprise.
Rough Night
Wow, last night was a rough night! I was up almost the entire time between 1:00 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. It was a combination of things- I didn't like the way Mom and Dad swaddled me. I am not used to being in the swaddle without an extra blanket (the blanket helps the swaddle fit better). Without the blanket, I have a little too much freedom meaning that when I move around- even a little bit- I wake myself up. More than once, I found my limbs sticking out of places they should have been tucked into. I also had an upset tummy with a lot of gas. It must have been something Mom ate yesterday. It is super hard to sleep with baby indigestion. I wonder if they make Pepto-Bismol for babies? If not, I should definitely write to them and suggest it. It would help me and my mom and dad sleep a whole lot better!

A New Best Friend... Maybe
Up until today, I wasn't quite sure what to make of Trevor dog. My first impression was that he was a hairy beast who made a lot of loud barking noises. His barking not only hurts my ears, but it most often disturbs my baby beauty sleep. I also thought that Trevor might be dangerous since Mommy and Daddy almost never let him be in the same place at the same time as me... and they NEVER let him be alone with me. But now I wonder if I have misjudged Trev-dog because today he did something that made me feel comforted when I was crying- he gave me a doggy tongue bath. He licked my baby feet and legs until they were clean, then he moved onto my hands and arms. He even gave me a lick on the face. It was really nice and I wasn't scared at all. To thank him, I gave him some gentle pats on the back (I hope he knew it was me petting him and not Mommy). I think that this might be the start of a great friendship... unless he was licking me to figure out what I taste like so that he can determine whether to eat me later. Maybe I should stay a little cautious just in case.

There's a First for Everything
This weekend was full of firsts for me... I guess this is to be expected since I have only been alive 5 weeks... when you are this young, practically everything you do is a "first." So, it was my first time on an airplane, in a hotel, on the beach, seeing the Pacific Ocean, on a ferry, seeing habor seals, in Long John Silvers, visiting California, and meeting my Uncle Sean-Paul. I have to be honest that while all of these things were super exciting, they were also overwhelmingly new. It was hard for my little brain to take it all in- when it got to be too much, I cried and looked for food. Food seems to be extra comforting when I am in unusual situations. I guess giving me milk whenever I wanted it might have been inconvenient for my mom and dad, but I didn't care- I needed to be comforted. I also got to see my grammy and grandpa again. This time I was ready for all of the pictures. I did my best to make Daddy's birthday weekend extra special.

Packing for Our Trip
Today, Mommy and I spent a lot of time getting ready for our trip tomorrow. She said that Daddy won't carry the super cute diaper bag that she bought for me.
Instead, he wants to carry something called a "Diaper Dude" bag. Apparently, it is designed specifically for Daddy's. I guess that is okay with me- as long as it holds all of my most important
stuff.
I reminded Mommy to pack my yellow swaddle, pink fancy dress, froggy crinkle toy, and a lot of diapers. She was also sure to pack some bath stuff just in case I get really dirty at the beach, and a blanky to keep me warm around town. While I was napping, she packed the things she and Daddy will need. I didn't realize that my Daddy is turning 40 this weekend. Wow, this is an important one! Since I don't have time to get him something special, I will do my best to be the cutest baby ever- maybe I will try out that smile thing just for him.

A Visit to Dr. Brunner's Office
So, I just got back from my one month doctor's visit with Dr. Brunner. She weighed and measured me, listened to my heart and lungs, and checked my stomach, mouth, eyes, and ears. It turns out that I gained 5 oz. since my appointment at the Birth Center last week. I now weigh 7 lbs. 2 oz. The doctor said that I am a little small, but then again so are my parents. I am super content and that is what is most important. The doctor said everything else looks great and I won't have to see her again until I am 2 months old. She also said that I will smile soon. I can't wait to know what that looks and feels like.
One Month
Boogies, Boogies, Boogies
Just in the last couple of days, I have gained the ability to shoot slimy, green boogers from my nose when I sneeze! It is great to see Mom and Dad's reaction as they argue over who is going to get it off my cute baby face. This morning, Dad said, "I'm not going to get it. You get it." Mom's response, "I always get it! It is your turn." It took Dad a full 30 seconds to figure out the best way to get the booger. Come on, Dad, you have a nose... you know what to do. He finally ran upstairs and grabbed a tissue. I guess that is better than the rough paper towel Mom uses to wipe my face after I spit up my liquid vitamin. I also find it entertaining when Mom and Dad coo over how cute the little booger is. Little! How can they possibly think something that is the same size as my nostril is little? It takes a lot of sneezing force to get those boogers out of there- sometimes, I even have to sneeze more than once to make it happen. You can imagine how uncomfortable it must be for me to have a booger half in, half out. And, I can't even use my finger to help me as my fingers are much too big to fit into my nostrils. I wonder when my nostrils will get big enough for my fingers. I'll keep you posted.

Darn Dog
I was getting some of the best sleep of my life last night (it was going to be a rare "only wake-up once night") until... Trev-dog decided that he needed to go to the bathroom at 5:30 a.m. Once I heard the jingling of his collar, I was WIDE awake. There is only one thing for a baby to do when she is that wide awake- EAT! I finally got my mom's attention with my loud (and a little over dramatic) crying, and feeding began. Unfortunately, Mom thought I was done after about 15 minutes when really, I was just getting started. I showed her... after laying me back in my bed, I proceeded to scream until she finally came back to give me more milk. If I can't sleep, I am going to make sure no one else can either.
Changed Comment Settings
Learning something new is hard work... I just realized (thanks to one of Mom and Dad's friends) that my comment settings would only allow members of the Google community to leave me messages. What a scam! I want anyone and everyone to be able to leave me their thoughts... so, I have changed the settings so that anyone can comment- even if you don't have a Google account. Who's the baby?!

Is It Too Late?
Does anyone know when it is too late to send out a birth announcement? Mom is just now taking pictures to make one for me. I am not being super cooperative because I feel like she should have had this done during my first week of life! I mean, what better time to get a cute picture of me sleeping than just days after my birth. Instead, she has waited until I'm 4 weeks old. I'm just now getting used to staying awake longer and she wants me to sleep so that she can get the perfect picture. As you can see, I am not making it easy for her. You will all just have to wait for the actual announcement to know if I let Mom get a cute shot of me.
Birth Certificate Mistake
So, I received my official birth certificate at the end of last week. That is when I noticed that somebody had misspelled my middle name. This might not bother some other babies, but it was especially disturbing to me as I am named after my Gran... when you are named after someone, you have to spell his or her name correctly. I alerted Mom by letting out a loud cry. She was also very disappointed to see the mistake. Lucky for me, Mom figured out how to correct the mistake, and she won't even have to pay extra! We are putting the correction in the mail today. I hope I have my new CORRECT certificate in time for my trip to Canada in June.
A Trick for Daddy
I had been planning it since my last diaper change at 5:00 a.m. this morning... Daddy didn't suspect a thing. After waking me up at 7:00 a.m., he took me to the changing table. I had to be patient and wait for him to completely remove my old diaper (which wasn't really all that messy... that was part of the trick). Just as Daddy thought all he needed to do was give me a good wipe, I let out the biggest poo ever, right on the changing table. I was so good, that even got some on Daddy. Then, while Daddy was still overwhelmed by my poo, I tinkled a bladder full all over the changing table. Double whammy!! I am getting a lot better at the sprinkler tinkle, too- I move my whole body back and forth while I am tinkling so that it goes all over instead of staying in just one place. Daddy had to throw all of the changing table covers into the laundry and put me in a new outfit. Hehehehe... gotta love me!

What I Think About Life So Far

Here are a few of my most favorite and least favorite things...
Favorites:
- sleeping
- eating
- taking baths
- crying when I know that I should be sleeping and when I know that Mommy's trying to take a nap (hehehe...)
- looking around
- kicking around on my back
- big rocks in the glider
- pats on the back
- big stretches (especially after just waking up... boy, I am so cute when I do this!)
- walking up and down the stairs with Daddy
- looking to the right
- The Price is Right
Least Favorites:
- diaper changes when I am hungry (maybe they should feed me and then change me... make a smart choice Mom and Dad!)
- putting on and taking off clothes, especially over the head outfits
- bright light (the sun is the worst)
- playing too much on my tummy
- looking to the left (but, I am getting better now that Mommy makes me practice)
- taking my liquid vitamin (even the cherry flavor doesn't help it taste better)
Things that I like sometimes, but not always:
- riding in the car
- being carried in a sling
- rocking in my car seat
- being swaddled
- toys that make noise or play songs
Going on an Airplane
I am so excited! Only 4 more days until my first real trip- San Diego, California for Dad's birthday. I even get to go on an airplane! It takes some people years before they fly and I am lucky enough to get to go after just 1 month! Even more exciting is that I get to see my Grammy and Grandpa again. It was fun getting to meet them after just a few days of life and now I get to see them again so soon! This time I am prepared for all of the flashing from Grammy's camera! Man, that was disturbing... I didn't open my eyes for 3 days after that! I will also get to meet my Uncle Sean-Paul for the first time. I think we are going to have a great time hanging out at the beach- I can't wait to see Dad surf! Time to think about what to pack!

From Birth to 3 1/2 Weeks
This is Baby Paige... I know that this is just my first entry and I am almost 4 weeks old, but it took me awhile to figure out what blogging is. So, let me start with an update of my life so far. I was born at 3:12 am on Tuesday, April 24th. My mom gave birth to me in the water at the Puget Sound Birth Center. It felt so good to be born into the warm water. My mom's midwives checked me out after an hour of life. I weighed 6 lbs. 6.5 oz., was 20 in. long, with a head circumference of 13.25 in. Everything else looked good... I even had something called the Babinski reflex, whatever that is. The first days at home were good, although feeding wasn't as easy as I thought it would be... once I got down the latching technique and realized that my mom had two breasts instead of one, I was a much better eater. Since then, I have done a lot of fun things. When I was just 3 days old, I met my mom's 4th grade class at Pine Lake Park. I was too tired to visit with the students, but they didn't seem to mind. Then, during Mother's Day weekend, we went on an Art Drive. I tried to stay awake to enjoy the art, but the car was just too relaxing. Next, I visited my mom's school again. This time, I actually opened my eyes and saw the students. They seem so enthusiastic! My mom and dad also took me back to see the midwives. They weighed me and discovered that I now weigh 6 lb. 13 oz. I gained a whole 7 oz. in just one week! It seems like I am right on track to being a healthy, happy baby. Finally, my mom and dad took me to the University District Street Fair yesterday. Wow, that was overwhelming- so overwhelming that I only woke up once last night! Mom and Dad must have been so excited to get two sets of four hours of sleep. I can't guarantee that will happen again... at least not for awhile. I just get so hungry in the middle of the night! Okay... it is time for me to go to bed now...
